Every now and then I find this a really lovely practice .. to ask yourself a few deep and meaningfuls! I find so much direction in the responses that flow. Personally, I tend to journal or free write my responses as a first step, and then spend some time reading back over those words to shape some new goals, plan a little and dream about new possibilities. No pressure .. this is not a test! Just a bit of gentle reflection, exploring and dreaming.
Ask yourself ..
♡ How do you want to feel when you wake up each morning?
Do you currently feel energised or exhausted as each day begins? I am guessing most of you share my hopes to wake up with energy, and a head and heart at least half full of positivity! The reality at the moment is that most days it takes me longer than it should to feel the energy through the overwhelm! Setting intentions that are backed up with a few strategies have helped me .. such as committing to 8 hours sleep, saying no to more work or other evening commitments and putting a regular bedtime ritual in place.
♡ What do you want to be remembered for?
In the big and small sense, whether referring to how you are remembered after a first date, a meeting or your life legacy … what are the things you want to be remembered for? Your kindness, humour, compassion, your work in the world? Is there a big dream simmering away at your heart that is not being given the attention it deserves? I actually have a lot of these, and every now and then I panic that I am running out of time! I want to be remembered for how I make people feel, in a good way! I want to be remembered for being a great Mamma, always choosing kindness, my volunteer work, and for being real, not perfect.
♡ How do you want to make others feel when they are around you?
Every time you meet someone, every time you speak to your loved ones .. they are left feeling a certain way after the interaction. If you can remember this as often as possible you can actually change how people experience the world! Do your own little bit and make a list of the ways you want to make people feel .. calm, uplifted, supported, heard, valued, happy, included, appreciated, connected, warm and fuzzy?
♡ Who inspires you?
Such a fun question! It may be someone of global significance such as Audrey Hepburn or Princess Diana in my case, or it may be your Mother, boss, bestie, firstborn, partner, Uber driver, colleague or teacher. Keep a list of these people, collect a few photos if you can and also have a think about why they inspire you, this is the perfect place to start planning how you can best serve and show up in the world!
♡ What type of problems do you enjoy solving most?
A little bit deep this one! Do you get excited by solving financial problems, crunching number, or are you more of a word whizz who loves to sit and unravel life’s deep emotional problems with friends? I am most definitely the latter, nothing excites me more than a juicy conversation with like minded people! I think that a lot of creativity can be found in these places, where you find yourself enjoying problem solving!
♡ If you had to choose 3 words to describe yourself what would they be?
Be kind now! The way you see yourself and the way you treat yourself sets the standard for others. How would you describe yourself to your children? Be mindful of the language you use in everyday life. Would you describe yourself as loyal, funny, motivated, passionate, friendly, confident, kind, complex, fun, deep thinking, calm, centred, open, honest, generous?
♡ What do you most look forward to each weekend?
Are you sporty, creative, a homebody? Do you crave adventure, relaxation or a bit of both? What lights you up when time is on your side and you have the choice that the weekend offers you? How do you want to spend that time? These are the things that you are passionate about, the things that really light you up and create your most precious memories.
♡ How do you feel on Sunday nights?
This one is a bit of a no brainer .. if your mood suddenly switches from weekend bliss to doom and gloom every Sunday afternoon, there is most likely something you need to think about, and change! What is it about the new week that causes you the Sunday Blues? I have not felt this in many years, when I decided to commit to only work that is aligned with my values, purpose and doing what I love! It can be hard to work out what this is, it can be even harder to set up a life that does not revolve around the outdated expectations imposed by society! It is well worth the effort though trust me!
♡ How do you feel about the people you work with?
I think this one comes naturally after the potential Sunday Night Blues! Are you inspired by the people you work with, or do you find yourself engaging in crappy gossip and other toxic behaviour at work? Is your Manager or the other leaders in your world committed to supporting you to grow and enjoy your work? Are you heard, valued and cared for? There really is no excuse for accepting anything less than this, especially when you think about how much time you spend working!
♡ What do you love most about yourself?
Dig a little deeper into how you describe yourself .. what is the one thing about yourself you are most proud of? What do you find yourself enjoying the most about your personality and your uniqueness? Do you love nothing more than taking care of others, in a healthy sense of course! Do you crave creativity, and feel a sense of purpose when you are creating something a bit magical like photography, painting, drawing, colouring? Are you super organised and committed to everything that you take on? Are you able to weather the crazy storms that life throws at you with calm and grace? The thing you love most is one of your many gifts to the world, embrace it always!
I would love to hear how you go with the questions, which ones revealed the most for you? Also, would it be helpful for me to create a printable version of these for you with space to journal?
