20 Meaningful Questions to Ask Your Children

20 questions to ask your children

If you want to go a little deeper than “How was school?” (which I find gets the same one word response everyday!) these questions may help you open up a whole new world of more meaningful conversation with your little people. It’s all about giving them the chance to talk about what matters to them. Little humans generally don’t have the skills yet to initiate a deeper conversation so as their adult influencers we can get them started. It can be a lot of fun, and it can also allow them to access things that are lying deep just waiting to be shared!

Try out a few of these and see how you go, remember to always use open ended questions so that a yes or no answer is not possible!

♡ Can you tell me about someone you saw doing something kind today?

♡ What made you feel joy today?

♡ How did your teacher seem to be at school today, did she have a happy day or was she busy?

♡ Did you get a chance to play today and who did you play with?

♡ What was the most exciting thing you learnt in class today?

♡ Who made you smile today?

♡ What was the best thing you ate today and why?

♡ Did you or anyone else ask a really great question in class today?

♡ Did you fill a bucket today, how and whose was it?

♡ How did you feel when the bell went for lunch?

♡ What did you do today that made you feel proud of yourself?

♡ When did you use really lovely manners today?

♡ Which two words would you use to describe your day?

♡ Did you see anyone doing or saying something unkind today?

♡ What would you do differently about today if you could start it over again?

♡ How would you rate your day out of 10 today? Why?

♡ Who was the most kind and caring towards you today?

♡ Did you hear any funny jokes today you can tell me?

♡ What is your favourite thing to do after school?

♡ How do you want to feel tomorrow when we head to school?

Let me know how you go with these!
