Vanessa is the essence of effortless style .. and at the same time humility. I am lucky to have called her my friend for roughly 20 years now (yikes, feeling old much?) Since moving her family to Bali in 2012 she has embraced the lifestyle, the customs and the uniqueness of this magical island. Vanessa has also made lifelong friends and explored her creativity, which is only natural when immersed in the beauty of Bali! Her beautiful business is called Los Luna Home which was inspired by their life in Bali and the significance of the moon.

Extra-ordinary humans | Living their lives with JOY | Changing the world around them |
Where in the world do you call home?
Home for us is Bali, we have been living here for over 3 years and had our last little person, Bowie, here which was beautiful. Australia is such a fantastic place and we love returning but right now for our family, Bali is home. The cultural experience for our kids is what we love, learning the traditions, being a part of the ceremonies, and of course the language, is so fantastic and an experience that we hope our children can look back on in adulthood and appreciate.
Describe your home and neighbourhood briefly and the best thing about living there:
Our home is surrounded by rice fields! A cool breeze and a lovely green outlook with the occasional snake thrown in for good measure! We have a fantastic little neighbourhood where our kids are always out on the ‘gang’ (lane) every afternoon riding their bikes with all the local kids and flying kites if the wind is up!
Our home is an eclectic mix, lots of family photos, authentic handcrafted pieces picked up here and there, way too many cushions and of course my favourite pieces and things im playing around with from my collections.
How would you describe yourself in 3 words:
Creative, honest, and a little bossy!
If you could choose one super power what would it be?
To speak all the languages of the world! Is that a superpower? I would love to have those conversations with everyone and anyone and share stories .. that would be so fun!
What is the purpose at the heart of your business?
My home-wares label is called Los Luna Home, an ever evolving collection of handcrafted, authentic pieces made by amazing artists here in Bali and around the world.
The purpose of my business is to showcase some of the amazing talents from around the world, using old techniques and putting a little modern touch or even just keeping it authentic and placing it alongside newer products. I hope to help people have a piece of something that has a story, a journey of the time and effort it has taken for the artist to make each piece.
If you could choose any celebrity to become the Ambassador for Los Luna Home who would you choose and why?
The first person that always comes to mind is Oprah Winfrey, besides the interesting stories she can tell about pretty much anything and anyone on the planet, her philanthropic ventures are awe inspiring! Using her power and own wealth to fund and roll out different initiatives especially the foundation that helps educate children and young women in developing countries is amazing! Who wouldn’t want Oprah as an ambassador!
What do you think is the most important thing for us to teach the children of our generation?
To be kind and treat all as equals, living in another country which is developing, our children see first hand that not everyone owns houses, cars and even simple things like adequate housing and utilities. I hope that the experience we are giving them, will teach them to appreciate everything they have. All we can hope for is that they grow up with the heart and soul to help others because they can without needing anything in return.
What do you consider essential to your mental and physical wellbeing?
Exercise is definitely beneficial physically and mentally, whilst we are all so busy running around it is so important for ourselves and our families to have some time to move the body. Eating healthy, nutritious food and feeding our bodies with as many raw and non processed foods as possible makes me a happy healthy person!
How do you take care of yourself amongst the busy demands of daily life?
As mentioned before exercise and eating as well as possible is the best way that I can take care of myself for my family and myself. Jumping into the ocean just changes my whole mood and brings a big smile to my face, even if its brief it re-centres me and shows me again it’s the simple things that matter the most.
What has been your greatest lesson in life so far?
Patience ! I still struggle with this and it’s a daily battle but I am learning to be more patient and not get so upset with little things that really don’t matter. I have learned to take things as they come and know that being positive and having a little faith that things will work out eventually, you just have to allow them to happen rather than pushing and forcing it!
What is your best advice for anyone else who has a dream to be extra-ordinary?
Stay true to who you are, try not to listen to others who are pushing their own negative experiences onto you, understand that everyone is on their own journey and whilst they probably mean well, unless they are in your shoes their story may not apply to you. When you go through a loss or tragedy the people who step up will surprise you as will the people you thought would be there and aren’t. Those people who do, grab them and never let them go, they are true friends!!!
