Extra-ordinary humans | Living their lives with JOY | Keeping it Real

Previously the Inspired By series, now called the JOY-TRIBE.

As soon as I came across Sacred Social on Instagram I knew that I needed to find the soul behind this meme, this feed and the abundance of heart in these messages! Sophie radiates the sacred energy of her feed and vision in an online world where we increasingly need more and more of this.

It turns out that Sophie shares many of my own values, and the online world is a better place for her being in it, being true to her purpose and creating the type of connection that we all need to shine.

Thank you Sophie for taking the time to share a little about yourself and Sacred Social:

Where in the world do you call home?

Right now, home is in Seaford (a bayside town just 50 minutes out of Melbourne city). I share my home with my partner and his parents and we live a really slow and simple lifestyle. We are all self-confessed homebodies and spend a lot of time hanging out together in the garden, in the kitchen, in the lounge room or in my renovated caravan office (affectionately named #bobthevan).

How would you describe yourself in 3 words:

Deep
Real
Wild

Why did you start Sacred Social?

I began my business as a social media manager in my last year of a marketing and journalism degree. I worked as a social media manager for two years before I came up with the idea for sacred social media.

While so many people viewed social media as ‘noisy’ and ‘saturated’, I always saw it in a different light. I saw it as a space to express myself creatively, build genuine connection, and ultimately connect back with myself.

Social media allowed me to build a beautiful business and step into a magical life completely aligned with who I am. It allowed me to shine my light, share my message and be recognised for my gifts.

And I really just want to be able to share that with others too!

Social media doesn’t have to feel hard or scary or confusing, it can be whatever you want it to be. So I created Sacred Social as an approach to using social media in a way that is deeply rooted with intention, creativity or flow.

How do you want people to feel when they discover Sacred Social?

This is such a good question and something that I ask all of my coaching clients when we work on their social media strategy.

So let me give you a response that I prepared earlier in my social media strategy… I want people to feel supported, empowered, recognised and connected when they discover Sacred Social.

If you could choose any human to become the Ambassador for Sacred Social who would you choose and why?

I first came up with the idea for Sacred Social when reading ‘Light Is the New Black’ by Rebecca Campbell so I’d have to choose her. I absolutely adore her books and feel really connected with her message and vibe.

What do you think is the most important thing for us to teach the children of our generation?

I have this radical theory that we would change the world if we taught our children this one thing: you are not your thoughts.

How do you take care of yourself amongst the busy demands of daily life?

Recently, my focus is on making all of my moments ‘sacred’. This looks different every single day but can include popping a beautiful essential oil in the diffuser, taking myself out for coffee with my laptop, taking some big, deep breaths while I do the dishes or jumping in the bath with a good book. Even on the busiest days, there is always something to make sacred!

Is there a charity that you are currently aligned with or planning to support through your work in the future?

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately and have two main causes that I am really passionate about: women and Mother Earth. So if I ever partner or work with any charities, they would be aligned to that. I’m also really passionate about creating change on a grass-roots, community level and am always looking for ways that I can make an impact in my everyday life.

What has been your greatest lesson in life so far?

Similar to what I mentioned before, my biggest lesson has been realising that I am not my thoughts and I get to choose where I put my attention.

Favourites:

Treat: Ice cream, always!

Person: I really like who I am and I love the fact that I’ve been able to go out into the world and create relationships with the best people in the world. I can’t choose a favourite but they all chose me – and for that, I am so grateful!

Colour: Rainbow because I can never choose!

Word: Sacred

Memory: I have a beautiful memory of being on retreat in Byron Bay three years ago and getting my first glimpse of my ‘highest self’. That moment changed my life, leading me to start my business and consciously create the life that I desired.

Magazine: Breathe Magazine is an absolute treat!

Blog: I love all the blog posts from Betty Means Business

Quote: “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.” – Marianne Williamson

Smell: Obsessed with doTERRA peppermint essential oil!

Song: Impossible to choose!
